Naval Submarine – USS Thresher

  • Mahogany wood, shaped and carved
  • 2 ¾ x 24 x 5 ½ inches high

This early piece was developed using actual construction drawings for the USS Thresher (USS(N) 593), a nuclear submarine under construction in the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Kittery, Maine in 1959. Don was present at the launching of the submarine in July 1960. Sadly, the ship was lost at sea with all hands during sea trials, following an overhaul, on April 10, 1963.
